about

Coming from the idyllic shores of Vancouver, Cameron Reed has been making a big splash in the electronic music scene as Babe Rainbow since the release of his breakout Shaved EP in early 2010. His unique sensibilities have drawn him to sounds and projects that span hip-hop production, ambient techno, dubstep, chopped & screwed, and more, each imbued with distinct Babe Rainbow style.

It was actually around the time of his Screwed mixtape release that we first heard mention of a collaborative track with Yung Clova of G-Side, who’s album The One… Cohesive had been making heavy rotation for all of us. Eventually that track, “Greed,” ended up being a standout on his already fantastic Endless Path EP (one of our Top 10 Favorite EPs of 2011).

We were huge fans of the song, so when the opportunity arose to put together an release positively bursting with remixes of it, we jumped at the chance. Which, of course, brings us to today, and the release of the Greed Remix EP. The EP starts out with a stutter stepping doubletime remix from Babe Rainbow compatriot CFCF, who brings the gun-cocks and steel drum for a dancehall flavor.

d’Eon takes “Greed” to a chrome future, with diamond twinkling synths and samples that build ferociously over one another until the laid back original track is a thing of the past. LOL Boys come up big with a house inflected remix that swirls into a crazy bridge before slamming back into a comprehensive banger. London’s Nowa Huta keeps things in low gear with a gorgeously based take on the track, with swooning vocal samples and woozy atmospherics.

Sanctums retains the most of the original vocal, weaving a droning wall of sound around Clova’s fire verses. Last but not least is 5kin & Bone5 who bring the low end for a wobbly dubstep spin on the whole affair. Finally, as a bonus, the original instrumental for “Greed” is included to remind you of the awesome canvas all these remixers had to work with. The free Greed Remix EP is available for download now!
